Apache says Pluto LNG processing deal not locked-in

APACHE says that Woodside Petroleum’s Pluto LNG processing deal is just one of many options for its Julimar gasfield, Western Australia.

The company claims that the future it is not relying on the use of Woodside Petroleum’s Pluto processing plant on the Burrup Peninsula. Industry officials believe Apache is simply trying to breathe competitiveness back into price talks.

Apache says that it could feed the gas through to its Devil Creek onshore plant south of Dampier.

The firm says that a standalone processing plant, domestic gas or LNG are all possible. However, analysts believe Julimar is too big to be developed solely for the domestic gas market, and not big enough for a stand-alone LNG plant.

Apache has also denied that it intends to make a final investment decision on Julimar’s development by the end of June 2009.
