Control strategies improve performance at WA copper mine

MIPAC will implement advanced control strategies to improve process performance at Birla’s Nifty Copper operation in Western Australia.

Birla approached MIPAC earlier in 2008 to review process and control instrumentation at its Nifty operation, west of Port Hedland.

MIPAC provides a range of process control, instrumentation and electrical engineering solutions to help mineral and metal mines maximise their operational processes.

Birla will implement control strategy improvements to Semi-Autogenous Grinding (SAG) milling, flotation and thickening to help maximise throughput.

The improvements are hoped to improve process stability, increase the feedrate to the SAG mill, and reduce demands on operators.
