Groups eye-off Newcastle Port as home for new LNG processing plant

THE NEWCASTLE Port says that it has been approached by multiple coal seam gas producers to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant.

The group wants to use Newcastle as an export port for up to 40 petajoules of CSG it has in the Gunnedah Basin.

The Port says talks about building an LNG processing plant are “very preliminary”.

The various companies reportedly interested in using the coal harbour as a second east coast export hub include Santos and Eastern Star.
