THE QUEENSLAND Resources Council says it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CQUniversity to address skills shortages in the minerals resources sector.

The Queensland Resources Council has a similar agreement with the University of Queensland.

The agreement signed by QRC President Nicole Hollows and CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President Professor John Rickard was announced at the recent Queensland Resources Expo in Rockhampton by QRC Chief Executive Michael Roche.

According to the QRC, the global recession has not resolved the problem of the skills shortage in the industry. This is stressing the industry as global demand for minerals and energy commodities starts to rebound.

CQUniversity will work with individual mining companies and the QRC to enhance regional career prospects.

The QRC-CQUniversity union supports the QRC’s vision to collaborate with selected mission-lead universities in Queensland to concentrate resources and teaching talent.
