THE MINERALS Down Under National Research Flagship and CSIRO scientists are joining with the Queensland government to improve navigation technologies useful in mining operations.
The research project will develop two new Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies, able to automatically communicate the location of users.
CSIRO says the systems will improve the efficiency of haul truck operations at mine sites. They will also support improved management of personnel safety, traffic management and collision avoidance.
The Queensland government is contributing $333,000 towards the project under its $300m Smart State Innovation Funding Program.
