SCITECH has released a hand-held geologic field spectrometer for rock and mineral identification.
According to the company, the DeltaNu RockHound is a portable, field analysis unit which utilises the method of Raman spectroscopy to identify rocks and minerals.
The product features a library with approximately 500 samples, and may be connected to a digital microscope to provide fine-laser positioning on discrete portions of rock.
According to the manufacturer, the unit can be used to characterise inclusions embedded in a mineral matrix and study daughter minerals and/or organic components in rocks.
The unit features a remote trigger and wireless blue tooth connectivity, and is equipped with FSX technology for high stability.
